Minesweeper Numbered Games

Numbered games make Minesweeper repeatable. Choose a game number from 1 to 999,999, pick a difficulty, and ClassicWorks builds the same board and safe opening for every player using the same generator version.

How numbered games work

A numbered Minesweeper board is generated from three pieces of information: the game number, the selected difficulty, and the board-generator version. The game number gives players an easy way to refer to a challenge, while the difficulty decides the board dimensions and mine count.

ClassicWorks also chooses a deterministic safe opening for numbered games. That opening is revealed at the start so every player sees the same first position before the timer begins. The timer then starts on the first reveal or flag action made by the player.

Random games and numbered games are different

Random games are made for casual play. They show a seed for consistency in the interface, but the first player-selected tile can affect the final mine layout because the board is built around that safe start.

Numbered games are built for comparison. Game 1, Beginner is always the same Beginner challenge. Game 1, Expert is a different board because Expert has a different shape and mine count, but it is still repeatable for every player who opens that exact game number and difficulty.

Community best times

Each numbered game can show a community best time for Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. New games begin from a 30-minute baseline. When a completed numbered game beats the stored time for its game number and difficulty, the record service can update that best time.

These times are lightweight community records reported by the browser, not formally verified tournament rankings. The Community Records page lets you look up the current best time for any game number.

Sharing a numbered challenge

The share button beside the game number copies a link containing the mode, game number, and difficulty. Another player opening that link receives the same numbered challenge and can compare their time against the displayed best.
