Beginner Minesweeper is the smallest ClassicWorks board: 9 columns, 9 rows, and 10 mines. It is the best place to learn how numbers point to nearby mines without the pressure of a large grid.

How the board tends to play

Most Beginner games are short. A single safe opening can reveal a large blank area, then the remaining work is usually scanning the edge of that opening for forced flags and safe cells.

Beginner strategy tips

• Start by reading every number around the first open area before placing flags.
• Use flags only when a clue has exactly enough hidden neighbours to account for its mine count.
• After each certain flag, rescan nearby 1s and 2s for safe cells that are now forced.

Numbered Beginner games

Beginner numbered games are useful for learning because the same small board can be replayed, shared, and compared without being overwhelming. Use the same game number to compare attempts, or open the Community Records page to check the current best time for a numbered challenge.
